COMPANY
Stephen is the backbone of our guiding operations. His business acumen & professional studies prior to the guiding arena ensures he is the best person to manage your fishing adventure expectations. A well rounded negotiator, strategic thinker & competent in four European languages, Stephen also has fishing running through his veins. Fastly becoming a famous fisherman in his fathers footsteps his enthusiastic approach, attention to detail & ability to adapt to change has set him aside from all the other guides working the river. We applauded his 150th 150lb+ Wels Catfish, to have him back this up with some 85 other fish over 175lb & six different 200lb+ monsters on his pebble rig makes us proud to have him represent the company.
PERSONAL
Unlike my father I am relatively new to the public eye of fishing & admit I have a lot to learn regarding the political correctness of our sport. My fishing background has been thorough, I started young both in freshwater & at sea & soon understood a passion for angling. As a young boy my father was my fishing hero, I remember most his fishing sheds, like a prize hoard of pirate’s treasure, regularly pondered over & moved from pillar to post. Watching him fondle with rigs & his secret bait recipes sowed seeds of desire & aspiration to love the sport of fishing like he did. I first fished with a six foot pole & learnt how to control glass & carbon in my hand & understood the momentum of the float, weight & bait attached. I then progressed to a match rod & mastered the art of loaded wagler & stick float fishing with a fixed spool reel. My fishing time back then was split between playing war in the woods with my school chums, but soon all holidays & spare time would be spent either stalking the river, free lining crust for chub on my centerpin or down the ponds with the float & feeder rod banging out tench after crucian on sweet corn & bread paste. It was when I caught my first carp that an awakening inside registered big fish, of course I had seen pictures of big fish but thought that only happened when you were older! After several mixed fishing seasons, some in search of Cod & Sea Bass I started to accompany my father at weekends from the age of 11 on his fishing sessions to Frencham ponds with Andy Little & so that was the start & the end who knows? I was not schooled nor primed for a career in fishing, my first taste of guiding was a bitter one for some, the Wels rigs & methods I had first been shown bore little regard for long term fish care & protection, my change brought about the pebble rig & since then my catch records & fishing accounts have had some call me a God of Catfishing! Well maybe one day? I suppose to some I make fishing look easy but then time casts no shadows on ability. As I fish & learn the waters as expected by those who hold trust in my charge, I spend more time on the bank than in the house; my televisions have been made redundant & just like my Father once did I Eat, Drink, Sleep & live for fishing.
