PERSONAL
I started fishing with a passion from the age of 7 on the Basingstoke canal & the River Wey. Since then I have fished & mastered a good number of UK venues. Prior to discovering carp I fished the River Thames, Kennet for Barbel, Bream & Tench; I loved fishing for trout & sea fished at Dungeness for Cod & wreck fished for Conger consistently over many years. I started Carp fishing in 1968 as a club member at Woking & District Angling Association & became their Head Bailiff in 1981, it is a position I have enjoyed thoroughly & hope to continue for many years to come. When I first started carping we made most of the equipment from scratch, my first landing net had a spreader block made by Kenny Hobden in his Dads shed, the landing net poles were made from carpet canes, the arms being cut down boat rod blanks & the knotted net from an old fisherman from Bognor. In this time, time, bait & tackle have moved & in my cap fishing career I have entertained many friends & today’s stars of fishing, the likes of Terry Hearn, Andy Little, Chris Ball, Bob Baker, Jan Wenska, Steve Brigs, David Gawthorn & the ever popular Ian Russell at the lakes in Send, Surrey. I first fished outside home shores for carp in 1992 at a lake in Metz, France & since have enjoyed the odd trip across the channel. In 2004 whilst filming for Gardner at Luke Moffats Lake the highlight of my French fishing bore 2 mid 50lb mirrors in quick succession, moving now onto the Ebro in pursuit of a new World Record Common Carp. Bob Baker is a great friend of mine; I have been working as one of Richworth’s top bait consultants for over 20 years, as Andy Little once said “confidence in a bag”. I have been working with Richard Gardner for some 15 years & see him as one of the first pioneers of modern day fishing tackle. Over these years I have developed & tested many products & bait that have gone on to sell in their millions & catch many a new personal best fish. Now with more time spent on adventure fishing with some of the best industry contacts, I look forward in furthering your fishing ambitions with us.
